Diamond Rings
A diamond wedding is a lifetime choice. Choose it yourself; accompany your fiancée while buying it. (Or arrange to buy it yourself and have it handed over to your spouse at the wedding function.) If you have no part in selecting your wedding ring, it could easily happen that you will be stuck with a ring you don’t quite like. And it being a wedding ring, you won’t also be able to change it.
There are numerous options available for selecting a diamond ring and hence the above advice. Let us look at these options.
Diamond Ring, or Diamond and Ring?
You can buy a readymade diamond ring, or buy diamond separately and then get it set in a ring to your taste. The latter option can not only save money in most cases, but will also enable you to have just the right kind of diamond ring you fancy.
Which Diamond?
Diamonds come in different shapes, colors and sizes. Your tastes and budget will determine your selection.
For shape, you have the ubiquitous round shape, and then oval, heart-shaped, princess and marquise, for example. For people with long fingers, an oval shaped diamond is a better choice than round ones. For the sentimental, a heart shaped diamond should be more appealing.
Diamond color can be natural color, or a color given through subsequent treatment. Naturally colored diamonds are rare, and more expensive. There is nothing wrong with synthetically colored diamonds; the only thing is that they are not that rare. Just make sure that you don’t pay the price of a naturally colored diamond for a synthetically colored one.
The typical color is clear. Then there are blue, pink and the much cherished yellow colored diamonds.
The size of the diamond you buy is determined by your budget. A large diamond can be quite expensive. You can buy several small diamonds and then set them into the ring in a way that makes the lot look like a single large diamond.
That brings us to the topic of setting diamonds on the rings.
What Kind of a Ring?
Diamonds can be set on a ring in several ways. The pave setting involves setting several small diamonds close together to give the appearance of one large diamond. This involves intricate working on the metal, and too many diamonds can make it more expensive than a large diamond.
The bezel setting covers much of the diamond, holding it securely (and also covering up any chips on the stone). In the normal kind of setting, the diamond stands out.
Yet another option is to have a larger focal diamond with smaller diamonds set on its sides. This can add some pizzazz to the ring.
Which Metal?
Your ring need not always be made of the traditional yellow gold. If you want to be a little different, you can go for white options.
The white options include white gold, platinum and titanium. Platinum is the most expensive of the options, and quite prestigious in modern times. Titanium is less expensive.
White gold can be made durable and hard by choosing a lower carat option that includes nickel. The ring can shine like silver or platinum with a coating of Rhodium.
The white options will go with almost any kind of outfit, in addition to making your ring stand out from the crowd.
